The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis vase is recognisable for its detailed ice-like design and texture, with rich amber-brown colour which fades to a clear edge. We imagine it sparkling away in your room as the light hits the complex crystalline surface. Made by Humppila Glass, Finland.
This pristine-condition vase is from the circa 1972-1987, 23cm wide and 14cm high.
Whilst his brother Tapio Wirkkala acquired fame in abundance with his glassware for the Finnish company Iittala, less is known about Tauno. However this designer established himself as a successful craftsperson in his own right with works like the Northern Lights vase collection in the early 1970's. Made by Humppila Glass, founded in 1952, Wirkkala produced magnificent and often complexly modern designs for the company.
